5 LOVE LETTERS TO TRY THIS CNY 2016

For this Chinese New Year, Baker’s Well has prepared an extensive variety of goodies for you to choose from. For the love letters, they offer Traditional flavored, Charcoal flavored and Hei Bee Hiam flavored. The Hei Bee Hiam Love Letters ($23) are rather unique, as they are savory unlike the common ones which are sweet. The batter is mixed with spicy dried shrimp sambal, hence every mouth will be filled with the fragrant taste of hei bee hiam. The love letters are a little spicy, so be sure to keep them away from the young ones!

MUST TRY PLACES TO EAT IN KATONG & EASTCOAST ROAD

Ten years down the road, the owner’s niece and partner have joined their efforts in putting their design and industrial skills to help rebrand and refurbish the Baker’s Well.

What we see today is a beautiful shopfront and an artistic concept that encompasses the interior of the bakery cafe. Baker’s Well serves an array of delicious artisan bakes ranging from bread, cookies, muffins, pastries to cakes.

25 MUST TRY PLACES TO EAT IN KATONG AND EAST COAST ROAD

This bakery cafe churns out humble homemade goods, packed with love and precision down to the very last ingredient. Fulfil your breakfast needs with some of their bakes; their muffins are made with no butter and less sugar!

Best Mooncakes 2015 After Eating Every Mooncake At Takashimaya’s Mid-Autumn Fair

The Champagne Truffle Snowskin is the star here, taking a bite into it will send your senses into euphoria. The skin is light and without being pasty and you can truly taste the champagne here. This one packs even more of a punch than Peony Jade’s version at 12% alcohol, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you wake up with a hangover after a few of these.

MOONCAKE FESTIVAL 2014

One thing is really care about for snowskin mooncakes is their skin, even more so than their actual flavour. And these mini mooncakes has done it perfectly for me! Thin, even, soft and yet not mushy and gooey, you can just bite into it upon taking them out from the fridge, no thawing really required! And neither does they 'melt' into a sticky, gooey mess after sitting at room temperature for a while. Their flavours strong enough for a distinctive, pleasant taste yet not overpowering, and the sweetness just right to make this a tasty sweet treat.

Cafes in Singapore East

Baker's Well, a bakery café, enjoys a good location along East Coast road next to its neighbour, Holqa café. Having been around since 2004, it probably had built up quite a good reputation for it to survive till today.

2014 Mooncake Mania!

Baker’s Well is a little cafe-bakery tucked in the same street of Katong Laksa. Besides their signature muffins, they also offer an exciting range of mooncakes! The Snowskin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle gets a thumbs up from us. We also tried the Baked Mooncake with Mixed Nuts (五仁) and was pleasantly surprised. Normally only parents and the older generation like the 五仁 taste- so we were taken aback when the taste was not your usual- the flavours blend really well and the nuts are crunchy. What an unexpected find!

Small Business SaturDAy: Baker's Well

We picked our favourite local artisan bakery, Baker's Well, to find out more about their journey for this Small Business Saturday. Since 2004, Baker's Well have been a true traditional bakery producing handmade muffins, cookies, breads, cakes and even mooncakes. All these goods have been and are still produced and sold on the same premises today at their bakery and cafe at 35 East Coast Road, in one of the old shop houses.

THE 5 BEST SNOWSKIN MOONCAKES OF 2016 THAT ARE LOW IN SUGAR

Low sugar snowskin mooncakes? Yes, they exist, and the Simply Her team has shortlisted the best 5 you should try this Mid-Autumn Festival.

CHILLI TRUFFLE [GREAT FIND] It’s an avant-garde combination for a mooncake, even among funky snowskin flavours, but the chilli-and-bitter-chocolate pairing worked. The heat is slow-burning – enough to intrigue without overwhelming the senses.

THE 8 BEST TRADITIONAL MOONCAKES OF 2016 THAT ARE LOW IN SUGAR !

BAKER'S WELL BAKED SKIN SUGAR-FREE WHITE LOTUS PASTE WITH ROASTED MELON SEEDS.

The aroma was promising, and happily, the baked mooncake lived up to our expectations – the paste was yielding, and we were impressed that the generous amount of melon seeds was evenly spread.
